Welcome back to the My Vitality Reboot podcast. If you’re a man over 50 and you care about staying strong, active, and capable for the long run, you’re in the right place.

Today I want to talk about three things that come up over and over again when it comes to aging well as a man: strength training, diet, and supplementation. These are the pillars. Get these right, and everything else becomes easier. Ignore them, and things tend to unravel faster than most people expect.

Let’s start with strength training, because this is the big one.

As men age, we naturally lose muscle mass and strength. This process starts earlier than most people realize—often in our 30s—and it accelerates after 50 if we’re not intentional. The good news is that resistance training is one of the most powerful tools we have to slow, stop, and even reverse that decline.

And I want to be very clear here: strength training does not mean you have to train like a bodybuilder. It means challenging your muscles regularly. That could be machines, free weights, bodyweight exercises, Tha Chi, or resistance bands. The key is consistency and progression.

For men over 50, strength training helps with far more than just muscle. It supports bone density, joint stability, balance, insulin sensitivity, and even cognitive health. I personally train several days a week, not because I’m chasing aesthetics, but because I want to keep doing the things I enjoy—hiking, biking, traveling, and living independently as long as possible.

Now let’s talk about diet.

One of the biggest mistakes I see men make as they get older is eating the same way they did in their 30s while being far less active. Our metabolism changes. Our recovery changes. Our protein needs actually go up, not down.

Men over 50 need to be much more intentional about protein intake, meal timing, and food quality. Protein supports muscle maintenance and repair, which becomes critical when you’re strength training. Whole foods matter more than ever. Highly processed foods tend to increase inflammation, which can affect joints, energy levels, and overall health.

This doesn’t mean you need a perfect diet. It means you need a sustainable one. Focus on protein, fruits, vegetables, healthy fats, and adequate hydration. Consistency beats perfection every time.

Now let’s get into supplementation—because this is where a lot of confusion exists.

Supplements are not magic. They don’t replace training, and they don’t override a poor diet. But they can support the work you’re already doing.

This is where I want to mention Beneve, and why I use their products over any other company. As part of a broader strategy—strength training, smart nutrition, good movement habits—Beneve products such as the Build Creatine Monohydrate, the Surge Amino Acids, and the Xcelerate Electrolytes provide your body what it needs to have the energy to workout as well as add and maintain the muscle.

I think it’s important to be honest about supplements. They should support your lifestyle, not become a crutch or a false promise.

Everything I talk about here ties back to the mission of MyVitalityReboot.com. This platform exists to help men over 50 reset expectations around aging. Getting older doesn’t mean getting weaker, slower, or less capable. It means being smarter about how you train, how you eat, and how you support your body.

If you’re just getting started, start small. Two or three strength sessions a week. Clean up one meal a day. Add supportive supplements only after the basics are in place.

If you’re already active, the goal becomes sustainability. Train in a way that supports joints. Recover well. Pay attention to how your body responds.

Aging is not something to fear, but it is something to prepare for. Strength training, diet, and supplementation are not optional if you want to stay strong past 50—they’re essential.
